The route

The day, stop by stop

One ticket, the whole day — from the Council Chamber to last orders. Times are our best plan and may shift a little as we get closer.

14.40

Gather

Outside Lambeth Town Hall on Brixton Hill. Come a little early — the Council Chamber doesn't wait.

15.00

Ceremony

In the Council Chamber. About half an hour, with music.

15.40

Photographs

On the town hall steps, then a drink nearby while we finish.

16.05

Brixton to Vauxhall

Two stops on the Victoria line, then a short walk. Roughly twenty minutes door to door.

16.30

Welcome cocktails

The Jolly Gardeners, Kennington. A drink in your hand, and the room is yours.

17.00

Wedding breakfast

Sit down, eat well. A few short words — we promise they're short.

Evening

Music, dancing and a little entertainment

More food later for anyone who's danced off the first lot. This is the bit we're most looking forward to.

23.30

Last orders

Carriages. Or the night bus, which is more our style.

Destinations

Getting there

Both venues are easy on public transport, and neither has parking worth the trouble.

Between the two: Brixton to Vauxhall is two stops on the Victoria line, about four minutes, then roughly ten minutes on foot. If you'd rather walk the last stretch along the river, we won't stop you.

Overnight

Where to rest

Every hotel here is within walking distance of The Jolly Gardeners, so you can walk home at the end of the night. Numbers on the map match the cards. Nothing is held or blocked — book directly, and early: late May is a busy weekend in London and the Oval often has cricket on.

Coming to the ceremony in Brixton? You needn't stay near it — Brixton to Vauxhall is two stops on the Victoria line, so a base near the reception suits everyone.

25 Lower Marsh, SE1 7RJ

Highest-rated on the list. Aparthotel with fridge and hob, on a lively market street beside Waterloo station.

Budget option with air conditioning near Elephant & Castle (Northern and Bakerloo lines). Reviews are mixed; best as a fallback.

Practical notes

  • Getting about. Kennington, Vauxhall, Oval and Lambeth North are all in Zones 1–2. Contactless or Oyster covers everything; no need to buy tickets.
  • Late night. Vauxhall and Waterloo have night buses and, on Saturdays, the Night Tube on the Victoria and Northern lines.
  • Parking. Very limited, and most of these hotels have none. If you are driving, plan to leave the car elsewhere.
  • Questions? Ask Christopher or David — David will happily tell you the history of every street on the way.

Hotel details as at September 2026; walking times are estimates from the pub door. Check prices and availability directly with each hotel.

Requests

Music

David has spent his life in orchestras and choirs, so the music matters more than the cake. Add something you'd like to hear — the odder the better.

Afterwards

Photographs

There's a shared album for the day. Put everything in, including the blurry ones — those are usually the best.
